Gabriela Nápoles is a Mexican filmmaker, cinematographer, documentary director, editor and photographer based in Mexico City. She has worked in film, documentary and visual storytelling since 2006, collaborating on fiction, nonfiction and experimental projects. She is the founder of Dragón Estudios de Cine, a production, exhibition and film education initiative, and has also worked as a cinematographer and editor on independent documentaries and films. Her work has addressed subjects including gender, identity, territory, environment, childhood, human rights and social change. As a cinematographer, she has worked on projects including Ayudantes al niño, En camino a Leo and Bestiario. She directed and photographed the feature documentary Portento, which follows the Mexican artist La Bruja de Texcoco during a decisive period in her career. Nápoles has also taught filmmaking and audiovisual production and has participated in initiatives supporting women and gender-diverse people working in cinematography and film.
